Many people in America and in China have told us how lucky that Jiliang is to be adopted by our family. Of course, we would like to believe that we can offer her a wonderful family life, but TRULY, WE ARE THE LUCKY ONES!!!! She teaches us new things to appreciate each and every day. We are truly blessed by her presence and the simple joys that she brings to our lives.
Every morning, she wakes up and she is a little afraid until she sees Ma-ma. Then, as if to brace herself for reality, she lifts up her blinds to make sure that her front yard still remains outside her bedroom window, staring long and hard. This has been a morning ritual since we first brought her home.
One could say, "Poor baby, she is afraid of losing her family, because she has never had a real family."
I like to look on the positive side. She is teaching us to be thankful for the many things that we all tend to take for granted at one time or another. So every morning, she looks out her bedroom window - of the home I once referred to as a shack- and she thinks, "Yes, I'm HOME!" Then, she smiles and rushes on to greet the family.
She is teaching us about thankfulness and the small joys in life that so very often get lost in the shuffle of every-day life.
