I was very impressed with the U of M today. We had an MRI for her heart expedited and scheduled for March 29th. We were supposed to have a Catscan tomorrow, but due to the need for anesthesia, we asked if we could possibly schedule a Catscan for the skull and the Heart MRI on the same day. They coordinated services and accomodated our needs by scheduling both the CT and the MRI on April 5th.
I feel that these tests will provide some solid answers about her health and it will help the Cardiology Department and the Craniofacial Surgery Department keep each other well-informed. Having a Pediatric Cardiology patient undergo Anesthesia carries a small risk factor, so doing it only once - as opposed to twice- is certainly much safer.
A very dear friend of the family was involved in a near-fatal accident last May of 2009. He miraculously survived; but not without his share of reconstructive surgeries. He still has a long road ahead of him, but he is an inspiration to me, as well as my family. As I look at my daughter and see how much surgery she needs may need to endure for a little girl, it seems in vain; yet our friend has undergone surgery in the best of spirits, and will continue to undergo more extensive surgery in the coming months. Please keep him in your prayers. I hope that his positive attitude will continue to help and inspire others. He has spoken very highly of The University of Michigan surgeons, which gives us much comfort and peace in their abilities.
On a positive note, Jiliang is starting to grow some hair in places that were once bald. We believe it is from her diverse diet. She continues to eat various meats, proteins and fruits. It is very patchy, thin, coarse and wiry in the affected areas, but I hope it will thicken up and fill in with time. I am testing out conditioners, and hope to find a good one for her. I will keep you all posted on new updates.
Thanks,
Jill :)

You are an awsome mom and doing a great job. Amazing how we go into protection or detective mode to get our kids wha they need!
ReplyDeleteTaylor has had all those tests for her surgery last Nov and did fine and they don't take all that long. The MRI the longest. She stayed still for those she was not under.... Jiliang will do great.
How exciting to see hair growth... Taylor's hair was brittle and orange when we got her and she smelled like vinagar from the malnurishment. Give her some butter in food and half and half with Pediasure and see if that also helps? Taylor's hair is now night and day and very healthy.
Glad you are also seeing the Cranofacial team, they will help as well. You are doing all the right things.
Keep us posted

Thanks Lavonne. We Moms need to hear that even now and then. You are awesome as well and an inspiration to me. Always remember that. Thanks for the hair tip. I will try it.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless you and your family.
